Wellington gives away 300 trees!
People who successfully applied to Wellington Town Council for a free fruit tree collected them on Saturday 28th Oct. The plan to give 300 trees to local residents and schools was approved by the councillors in August. They agreed to commit £5,400 from their Environmental Improvement budget to provide the dwarf apple trees as part of the council’s Tree Planting Strategy. People had to apply to the council and all of the trees were quickly snapped up – there’s even a waiting list for any which weren’t collected yesterday. Each collection was also given a small slip of paper promoting one of wellingtons great new sustainable projects the community farm. Well done to our town council on an excellent community initiative!
