Train stations approved

Great news! The Chancellor of the Exchequer has confirmed that the new train stations for Wellington and Cullompton will be going ahead. It has been reported that officials from the Treasury gave this news to our MP, Gideon Amos. A new station in Wellington has been talked about for some time. It will bring economic benefits to the town. It will also provide our young people easier access to educational opportunities as travel in the area becomes easier. The old station was closed in 1964.

Not only is this good news for the town generally, it is also good for the proposed Grand Western Greenway. The Network Rail haul road needed to construct the station is also intended to be the first section of the proposed Greenway. This haul road will also provide a link to Tonedale and a place to join the footpath from Langford Budville to Wellington. There is more information on the means of transport in our area on the transport page.
