Tonedale Mill Regeneration
It has been announced that the Government’s Levelling-up fund has accepted a bid for the regeneration of Tonedale Mill and Tone Works. The project is set to receive a grant of almost £20m. Somerset Council will be looking to progress a mix of commercial, residential and leisure used for the two sites.
The Mill and Tone Works were once the site of Fox Brothers & Co Ltd, the manufactures of woollen clothing. The site was purchased in 1796 and at its peak 5,000 people were employed. The mill mostly closed in the 1980’s and the doors finally closed in 2000. Fox’s Field is adjacent and now a public space and of course is the site of TTW’s Forest Garden.
