Sustainable Gardening Award

Transition Town Wellington WINS top sustainability award in the country!

At the RHS Britain in Bloom national finals on Friday 31 October, we were thrilled, delighted and stunned to hear that TTW has won the 2025 RHS Community Award for Sustainable Gardening.

There were five finalists for this new award: St Ives in Bloom (Cambridgeshire), Flourishing Forth (Scotland), Friends of Upminster Windmill Gardening Group (London), Holt Community Gardeners (Wales) and TTW (South West).

Wellington’s Mayor, Janet Lloyd, and Darren Hill, Wellington Town Council’s Open Spaces Manager accepted the Sustainable Gardening Award on behalf of TTW at the award ceremony in Brighton. Jon Wheatley, the chair of South West Britain in Bloom, said, “You are fantastic! This is the top sustainability award in the country – Wellington can be really proud.”

“This is such a wonderful achievement – the result of years of dedicated hard work, love and enthusiasm, from our amazing team of volunteers,” said Anita Roy (TTW chair). “A special shout-out to our community gardening lead Helen Gillingham, who is a constant inspiration and without whom none of this would have been possible. And to Anita Corbin for being such a wonderful champion of our work and for liaising with the RHS throughout. A brilliant team effort!”

December update: our RHS award is mentioned in The Guardian. We have also added photographs on the events page.
