Protect Wellington Protest

On Thursday 12 March between 200 and 300 people joined a protest over proposals by the Pegasus Group to build up to 250 houses in Wellington. The proposed site is on the south side of the Wellington Relief Road (A38). The protest was arranged by residents’ group Protect Wellington. It was supported by TTW members. Protect Wellington campaigns to protect agricultural land and ensure appropriate housing development. The protesters assembled at the proposed site and then marched to the town centre. Local councillors then spoke to the media and explained the strength of local resistance to the development. Both Wellington Town Council and the Wellington Without Parish Council oppose the proposed development.

Somerset Council planners have stated that they are still awaiting comments from key consultees before making a recommendation to the committee. A further demonstration will be held outside County Hall in Taunton when the Somerset Council’s planning committee is due to make a decision. That date has still to be confirmed.
