Grand Western Greenway news

The Grand Western Greenway news – the project is progressing. A report has been commissioned in conjunction with Greenways and Cycleroutes Ltd. This report will help move things forward with routes explored and engineering issues identified. Establishing the engineering issues early will help with finding solutions. Matters that need careful consideration include crossing the river and also problems with flooding. It will also clarify what permissions will be required together with other practicalities.

It is also reported that permission has been obtained to start the planning stage at both ends of the route. This includes Wellington to the Nynehead Road and from Taunton to Silk Mills. The developer who is hoping to build houses on the north side of the railway line in Wellington is looking to accommodate the Greenway within their scheme.

Langford Budville Parish Council is interested in creating a path that connects the village with Tonedale. This would provide a safe route for residents, avoiding the busy B3187, to Wellington, the new train station and the Greenway.

If you are not yet familiar with the Grand Western Greenway proposals, there is more information under cycling on our Transport page.
