Fox’s Field Party Success
TTW thanks to everyone who came to Fox’s Field Community Picnic this year!
For the Wellington Ukes for entertaining us with their uplifting tunes, to all the TTW volunteers who baked, served, poured and spread all the delicious jams, ice cream, drinks and cakes! It was a great opportunity to showcase the forest garden and the variety of food it can provide. Also thanks to those who organised children’s games – the tug of war was fun.
We met people of all ages from our local community, some who had been before and some people’s first visit. The tours of the forest garden were well attended, a chance to name the lesser known plants and their uses, with harvesting tips. We hope we have inspired new people to make jams, jellies, ice cream and preserves, as well as eating the fruit fresh, trying squashes and courgettes, using herbs in cooking, teas and even to help headaches and minor ills. Check out the recipes on our Food page and the signs for herbal uses. The Foraging Booklet is also on the Food page.
We were so grateful for the sunny weather that wasn’t too hot, and are already looking forward to next year to do it again! If you missed out this year you can still visit and enjoy the space and harvest, see here for directions. And we’d love to see you at our volunteer gardening sessions to help the garden grow!
We estimate about 120-130 people attended and Transition Town Wellington is grateful to the Somerset Community Foundation (SCF)for supporting this event through the “Stronger Communities” grant. There are plenty of pictures on our events page.
