Scything Skills

February 23 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Scything Skills @ Longacre

Scything pro Andi Rickard from the Somerset Scythe School, winner of numerous national competitions spanning 10 years, will be leading the session to help scythers perfect their skills. Whether you are a novice wanting to learn or if you have been to our scything sessions before, Andi is a great teacher who can help you improve the efficiency of your technique.

Everyone is welcome to come, no need to book and no prior experience needed. We will aim to mow the top meadow at Longacre to help wildflower seedlings grow in spring with less grass competition. Do wear suitable shoes and wear thin gardening gloves. If you own your own scythe please bring it, although we have community ones to borrow if not. Please try to walk or cycle, and if you have to drive, please park a bit further away to avoid complaints from nearby residents.

Dobree Park TA21 9RT, or walking access via Greenway road TA21 9DE. Please consider the residents and try to either walk or cycle, parking is very limited in this residential area. If you have to drive, please park further away and walk to the gate. There is only one access. The GPS coordinates for the gate into longacre from Dobree Park are 50.974877, -3.250810. Using the what3words.comapp, the three words are ///grants.flexibly.tablets. From the end of Greenway road take the footpath to the bottom of Dobree Park. Turn right and you will see the gate. This is site 4 on the foraging map.
