Rooted in Community

October 3 @ 10:00 am - 2:30 pm

Rooted in Community @ Wellington Methodist Church

Join this Rooted in Community event, on Saturday 3rd October, at Wellington Methodist Church from 10am. It will be exploring community-rooted food resilience, followed by hands-on workshops, a seasonal lunch, and ending with a forest garden tour.

Learn, Share, Connect at this day shaped by the realities of our extreme summer weather and the wider systemic challenges we face. We’ll discuss practical, community‑rooted responses, from food growing, cooking and preserving to redistribution and sharing schemes.

We will open the event with a discussion involving community projects building resilience and caring for soil, water, food and their communities. This will be followed by more hands-on workshops including:

A fermentation session – bring a clean glass jar
Knead & natter – learn how to make quick, easy soda bread
Growing winter windowsill greens, take home seedlings to grow on
An introduction to forest gardening

Then sit down for a seasonal lunch and chance to share news.

After lunch (at approx. 2.30pm), you will have the opportunity to join a 45 minute guided tour of the Fox’s Field Forest Garden, with Transition Town Wellington – not to be missed! The site is a 10-15 minute walk from the venue.
