Wellington Repair Cafe
At the Repair Cafe, you can bring things to be fixed or repaired, for free! A team of volunteers will be on hand to help prevent items ending up in landfill. Donations are welcome and there is cake, tea and coffee available while you wait.
Trades available: electrics, sewing/textiles, sharpening, jewellery repair, sewing machine repair, general stuff. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CLOCKS AND COMPUTER CHAPS WILL NOT BE THERE. Please note that if you are bringing something that needs a new zip, you need to bring the new zip with you! If any sewing job needs something to be unpicked first, it would also help if you can do that at home rather than leaving it to the sewing ladies, as it takes a long time and means that they can mend fewer items in the time available. Thanks!
*** ALSO AT THE REPAIR CAFE THIS WEEK ONLY – Free Trees!! ***
TTW have some trees to give away for residents’ gardens! We have rowan or mountain ash (Sorbus aucuparia) and crabapple (Malus sylvestris) which are fairly small trees ideal for back gardens. Also hazels (Corylus avellana) and elder (Sambucus nigra) which are large shrubs but can be pruned for smaller spaces. Less suitable unless you have a large garden because of their thorns are blackthorn (Prunus spinosa) and wild roses (Rosa canina). And if you have a large garden we’ve got some trees that will get very big, we have Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris), English oak (Quercus robur), grand fir (Abies grandis) and Black walnut (Juglans nigra).
The first 6 types were left over from hedge planting (courtesy of the Woodland Trust) and are currently about 1ft big with a module grown rootball. The large trees are donated from Helen Rook in Wiveliscombe, all bought from nurseries bare root. They will need planting promptly after collection, either in the ground or in a pot.
If you would like any of these, they will be available for collection at the TTW stall on a first-come first-served basis.
