Gardening – seeds

March 18 @ 8:00 am - 10:00 am

Wildflower sowing @ Trinity Orchard

Now we’ve cleared many of the brambles that border this site, there is a lot of bare earth showing; a perfect opportunity to sow wildflower seeds to help this site become more biodiverse in plant species. First we will rake the soil to make a seedbed and ensure every last bramble knot is removed. Then we will scatter sow seeds and then stamp them in. We also have a few bulbs “in the green” to plant. We will need to keep scything this area during the summer as the brambles try to grow back, so the seed selected are plants which can withstand more regular mowing, such as self heal, yarrow and cowslips. Everyone is welcome to help, no need to book and no prior experience needed. You are welcome to pop in before work to this early morning session. Do wear suitable shoes and wear gardening gloves. If you have a spade or rake these would be useful tools to bring, but we have some to borrow. Please try to walk or cycle, and if you have to drive, please park a bit further away to avoid complaints from nearby residents.

This semi wild orchard is located on Mantle Street right next to Wellington Medical Centre TA21 8BD. Stand at the entrance to the doctors surgery car park on the pavement, then walk a few meters away from the town centre. There is a grey stone wall with an iron gate on your left, which is the entrance to this little wild orchard, accessed up the steps. This is site 3 on the foraging map
